Posa

Mobile, Alabama rapper Posa creates a low-slung, laid-back sound, heavy on Auto-Tune, that is somehow simultaneously aggressive and relaxing. Born Karvin Jones, he grew up on a housing project where many young people turned to crime or drugs. His two elder brothers introduced him to rap music, and he became a fan, finally turning to making his own music as a teen in the early 2010s after an injury sidelined his hopes of a basketball career. In 2011 he began the mixtape series Bars & Liquor. Gaining attention by handing out CDs in the street, he started getting booked to perform and became a popular local live draw. He established himself online in 2013 with a remix of Future's "Honest." After his second child was born with a heart condition, the stress of constant medical care caused his family to break up. Channeling this heartache into his music, he moved to Atlanta in 2016 to try and make it there. He met T.I.'s DJ MLK, who passed Posa's demo to Girvin "Fly" Henry, head of the Warner-distributed Think It's a Game Records. Fly took an interest in Posa's music and signed him; the label released the singles "In a Minute" (featuring Q Money) and "Big Dawg" (featuring Moneybagg Yo), and the 2019 EP Bolo, which included the popular video track "Dropping Jewels." Posa's debut full-length album, 2 Sides of da Bottom, a collaboration with Rubberband OG, dropped early in 2020.
