Piyush Mishra

Piyush Mishra is a multi-talented Indian artist who has made a significant impact in the world of music, theatre, and film. Born on January 13, 1963 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India, he developed a passion for theatre in high school, pursuing it further by enrolling in the National School of Drama in Delhi upon graduation. He started his career as a theatre actor, writing and directing several plays and performing one-man shows. In 1989, Mishra made his foray into television and film, appearing in the series Rajdhani and the horror television serial Kile ka Rahasya, before transitioning to screenwriting and lyric writing with the film Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar in 2002. Making his mark as a film lyricist and singer, Mishra performed popular songs such as "Arre Ruk Ja Re Bandeh" (Black Friday) (2007), "Aarambh Hai Prachand" (Gulaal) (2009), "Ik Bagal" (Gangs of Wasseypur) (2012), "Bargat Ke Pedo” (Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid) (2012) as well as "Bas Chal Kapat" (Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns) (2013) and "Thaayein Kare Katta" (Revolver Rani - 2014). Known for his poetic stylings, Mishra's work has received critical appreciation from audiences and critics alike, and has since been credited on over 50 songs written for prominent artists such as Vishal Bhardwaj, M. M. Keeravani, and Pankaj Awasthi. After focusing on his acting career for almost 10 years, he returned to performing in 2023 with his rendition of the Hindi-dubbed "Jigarwala Sirf Woh" from the box office smash Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo.
