Narelle Kheng

After launching her music career as a member of the gold-certified Singaporean pop band The Sam Willows, Narelle Kheng began releasing solo material in 2016, with her debut EP Part 2 arriving in 2019. She was born on September 24, 1993, in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore, and raised in a Chinese-Singaporean family alongside her older brother, musician Benjamin Kheng. A talented athlete from an early age, she competed for years as a national youth swimmer before forming the indie-pop act The Sam Willows with Benjamin Kheng, Jonathan Chua, and Sandra Riley Tang in December 2011. The group began touring internationally in 2013 and worked with Grammy Award-winning producer Steve Lillywhite that same year. While continuing to perform with the band as a bassist and vocalist, Narelle also pursued an acting career, making her TV debut in 2014's Zero Calling and her film debut in 2016's Young & Fabulous. Meanwhile, The Sam Willows enjoyed immense popularity throughout much of the Asian world, with 2015's Take Heart and 2018's I Know, But Where both receiving a major-label release courtesy of Sony Music. When the group embarked upon an extended hiatus, though, Narelle chose to continue the solo career she'd launched with 2016's "Some They Lie," her first single recorded outside of The Sam Willows. Another non-album single, "Outta My Head," was released in 2019, followed by the three tracks that appeared on her debut EP, Part 2. Two years later, she returned with "Complicated Love Song," the first single from her second EP, Part 3.
