Mercedes Audras

Born in Buenos Aires in 1973 to an Argentinian mother, the painter Marie Orensanz, and a French father, Mercedes Audras spent her childhood in Italy and then France. Attracted to indie rock, she was playing bass in the band Power Game when she met Virgin France artistic director Fabrice Nataf, who signed her to an artist's contract in 1987. Joined in the studio by Nic North from The Comateens and Édith Fambuena from Max Valentin on guitar, she recorded "La Tête à l'envers " (1988), a debut single whose B-side "Placer del Tiempo " was written by Étienne Daho. Despite its critical acclaim, the single was not followed by a follow-up, and Mercedes Audras turned to the independent label Le Village Vert for the production of her first untitled album. Released in 1996 and produced by Katerine, it features songs in French, Spanish and English, with contributions from Les Innocents and Valérie Leulliot, from the group Autour de Lucie. Appearing in several films, including those by her sister Maria Audras, the singer followed this up in 2007 with the alternative-rock-oriented album Les Deux Qui S'Aiment, featuring Édith Fambuena alongside Jean-Louis Piérot. In 2011, her 3rd album, the bilingual 10,000 Km, was recorded in Argentina, featuring "Yeux d'enfant", written by Françoise Hardy, and other songs by Sally Seltmann, Alejandro Sergi from the Argentinian band Miranda!, Jacques Duvall, the group M Clan and a duet with JP Nataf from Les Innocents on "Ton apparence éclair". This collaboration with Argentine label Popart Music continues with the next, 5 (2014). Between two albums she composed for actress Leticia Bredice, Mercedes Audras worked on the Disco Pop project (2018), which brought together several Argentine singers and French actress Victoire Dauxerre.
