Halogenix

In the early 2020s, drum 'n' bass found itself at the centre of a resurgence thanks to social media-friendly artists like PinkPatheress and London DJ Sherelle, who brought new heat to the fast-paced UK-born dance style. The London producer Halogenix (real name: Laurence Reading, born 24 May 1989) has been leading the charge for the second coming of drum 'n' bass since starting out in 2012. He kicked off his career with a number talked-about releases, including 2013's Take the Lead EP and 2014's Critical Presents: Systems 101, while putting his name to tastemaking imprints such as Dispatch, Horizons, Ingredients, and Critical Music. Winding up under the watchful eye of drum 'n' bass icon Goldie, the release of Halogenix's All Blue EP on the legendary Metalheadz imprint in 2015 ensured his seat at the genre's top table of newcomers. That same year, he formed a trio with Sabre and Stray called Ivy Lab, and christened their arrival with the 20/20 Vol. 1 project. He has since gone on to build up his repertoire with a string of further EPs—Velvet, Jump Suit, and Silver Sword in 2017—and a steady stream of singles that dabble in liquid drum 'n bass. In 2023, Halogenix added another string to his bow in the form of his own imprint Gemini Friends, with his Lost Friends EP serving as the label's debut release.
