Double M

At 8 years old a bright-eyed kid from the project of Chicago discovered his love for poetry. At the young age of 14, the same kid, Marcus Marshall AKA Double M, wrote his first official rap song. It was a parody of the Ice T song "Colors" from the soundtrack of the movie respectively entitled 'Colors' wherein he made the song - respectively - about numbers, so it was all about algebraic equations and mathematics. True story. A few years later, he used a Toshiba boombox with a dual-cassette recorder to sample music from his favorite artists and make enough beats to perform and record his first album entitled "My Debut"...and it was terrible. But the love for grinding to make original music was forged forever then and there.

Flash forward about a year later. As he is burning up the local talent show circuit, Marcus meets...not a record producer or a recording label A&R, but a U.S. Army recruiter. About a year later, Marcus AKA Double M, joined the US Army and during his active duty stint as a Infantryman and Scout Recon squad member, he found little time for his music. But when he had time, he worked with samplers and drum machines to create beats that he could rap over in the future.

Flash forward again to 2001. After getting his hands on the first consumer friendly (read: cheap) available DAW, Marcus banged out his first album "More Than Meets The Eye" but there wasn't much time to celebrate the success of that accomplishment because 9/11 happened not long after. Two days later, Marcus and a fellow American recorded the song "Raise The Flag" to memorialize the tragedy and pay tribute to the victims.

After dominating the charts on Acid Planet, with the financial aid of his former Army buddy, Marcus released "More Than Meets The Eye" by selling them "out tha trunk" and outside dance clubs while pondering his future and it wasn't long before he realized that going back into the Army was a greater purpose. Between re-enlisting many years after his original Army stint and his acting aspirations, Double M was not able to fully jump back into making music until many years later, however he recorded enough material to compile into other things. But we'll get to that later...

After leaving the Army and slowly getting back into the proverbial swing of things, MySpace Music was the next platform that Marcus was able to generate fans from 29 different countries and amassed almost a million or more streams on each song that he released. In 2009, the "Hotness" album dropped. This time on actual CDs via CD Baby.

Flash forward one final time, Double M is now working on his sixth rap album, whilst filling in the gaps with the content he created while he was doing the aforementioned acting aspirations thingy. In 2013, he completed "Prolific" and in 2021, he released "We Rise" but in the midst of all that, Marcus discovered his love for creating musics of many types and genres and started releasing his "QuaranTunes" (after being forced to lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic) collection. To this day, he has created twelve volumes and released seven. Volume 12 will be the final "QuaranTunes" release.

Furthermore, Marcus has also composed many more orchestral works than those sprinkled throughout his "QuaranTunes" collection. His original score released in June 2022 for the upcoming movie 'Vendetta' is available now and he has five more completed orchestral projects on the back burner, just waiting to be released. Fun fact: Double M has no formal training in music or music theory and cannot read or write notes. Marcus is also a accomplished actor, screenwriter, movie Director and cinematographer. When will this multi-hyphenate man be discovered or get his "big break"...?? Only time will tell.

What's next? Double M will continue to fill in the gaps of his discography to include the past albums that have not been released. After some remastering, etc. Of course. Marcus is a perfectionist to a fault after all. "Victorious" - his 2003 album - is the first project from this cavernous music vault. He has also started work on his first and long overdue Christmas album, so that it can be finished and released by mid-November 2021 at the latest.

On a phone interview with a local radio station, Marcus was asked what his plans were for the future. He responded: "I think it's silly for me to still be doing this rap thing once I turn 50. Trying to be all hard and bouncing and strutting around and all that madness. At that point, I'm pretty sure that I'll just rebrand and become a smooth jazz pianist or something mellow like that." © Marshall Arts Entertainment
