Darling Violetta

Known for their gothic, orchestral blend of dark wave and dream pop, Darling Violetta formed in Hollywood, California, in 1997. The band named itself after Violetta Napierska, the romantic interest of Dracula actor Bela Lugosi. In another to those horror-movie roots, Darling Violetta received its big break via the supernatural television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which featured the group prominently during an episode in 1998. During the show, Darling Violetta performed "Blue Sun" (a track from the band's debut EP, Bath-Water-Flowers, which was released one year earlier in 1997) and "Cure" (which, although unreleased at the time, later appeared on the band's follow-up release, The Kill You EP, in 1999). Maintaining its connection to the series, Darling Violetta also performed "Angel Main Theme," the opening theme of the TV show (and Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off program) Angel in 1999. Angel ultimately ran for five seasons, with "Angel Main Theme" opening every episode. Parlour, the band's only full-length album, followed in 2003, earning critical acclaim for Cami Elen's vocals and Gerri Sutyak's prominent cello parts. A much-rumored follow-up album never materialized, however, and the band lapsed into inactivity, with Elen confirming the band's indefinite hiatus in 2018.
