Cucu Diamantes
Co-founder of the N.Y.C.-based band Yerba Buena, Cucu Diamantes is also a solo artist and actress. Born and raised in Havana, Cuba, Diamantes started her career singing in a salsa band while studying art in Italy. After a move to New York City, she met producer Andres Levin and formed Yerba Buena, a Latin-meets-hip-hop-meets-dance-music band whose 2003 effort President Alien was nominated for the Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album Grammy Award. Cabaret music was the main influence behind her 2009 solo effort Cuculand, which received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Song, "Mas Fuerte." In 2012 she was the focus of Amor Cronico, a film that followed Cucu on her travels across Cuba.
