Cody Lovaas

Singer/songwriter Cody Lovaas pens soulful pop songs inspired by the likes of Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, and his mentor Jason Mraz, who discovered him playing at an open mike at the age of 14. Putting a more atmospheric twist on Lovaas' guitar-based songwriting, EDM artists Shallou and Kasbo produced his 2018 single "Find," which accumulated over ten million streams within a few months of release. Merging acoustic sensibilities and downtempo electronic production, his intimate debut EP, Honestly, arrived in 2019. Born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Carlsbad, California, Lovaas started playing the guitar at age seven. When he was a high school freshman, Mraz caught his performance at a coffee shop open mike in nearby Oceanside. Mraz soon became his mentor, and arranged an audition with his management company. Lovaas signed with that management firm, and in his mid-teens, he toured the West Coast and took studio sessions in Los Angeles. His first national tour was opening for Mraz's Yes! tour in 2014. He recorded the digital album Live at the Carlsbad Village Theatre that August and won Best New Artist at the San Diego Music Awards before the end of the year. Lovaas eventually released an official debut single in early 2017, after signing with Black Box. Titled "Lie," it racked up millions of streams after being featured on popular streaming playlists. With production by Shallou and Kasbo, the more atmospheric "Find" was an even bigger viral hit in 2018. That year, Lovaas also released the song "Turbulence," which featured The Voice 2013 finalist Caroline Pennell. His debut EP, Honestly, followed on Black Box in mid-2019.
