André Verchuren

A symbol of accordion and musette, André Verchuren left his mark on the 1950s and 1960s. The Belgian-born Picard won several prizes in his youth before seeing his career curtailed by the Second World War. Resistant and deported, André Verchuren triumphed in the 1950s. He was the first musette accordionist to perform at the Olympia in 1956. With over 150 galas a year and almost 800 recordings, André Verchuren became a national monument. His most popular song, "Les Fiancés d'Auvergne" , was the most widely performed in France in the 1960s. André Verchuren didn't stop his beloved galas until the 2010s. The popular "Verchu" died on July 10, 2013 in Chantilly (Oise).
