Eddie Meduza
Eddie Meduza – born Errol Norstedt on June 17, 1948, in Örgryte, Sweden – was a rock singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentals best known for his rockabilly recordings. His songs contained lyrics about cars, girls, and alcohol and were laced with obscenities. He also tackled politics and spoke out against the Swedish government. Eddie Meduza also recorded more eccentric material under the pseudonym E Hitler, playing raggarmusic, which was a dirtier, greasier form of rockabilly. His recordings under the name Eddie Meduza were deeply influenced by raw and rare 1950s rock and roll, hillbilly, and rockabilly records. On most of his recordings, he handled all the instruments himself, which made has albums sound even more primitive. Occasionally, he would record with other musicians including a young guitarist named John Norum, who would later form Swedish rock band Europe. A controversial live artist, Eddie Meduza was known for his alcohol-driven confrontational performances. His 1975 debut album, Errol, was released under his real name but by 1978, he began performing and recording under the name Eddie Meduza. Between 1979 and 2002, he released 30 albums and a few dozen singles and EPs including “Yeah Yeah Yeah”, Jätteparty”, “Fruntimmer Ska En Ha…”, and “Midsommarnatt”. On January 17, 2002, Eddie Meduza died of a heart attack after years of alcohol abuse.
