Stoney Edwards' second album was more lighthearted and uptempo than his generally more reserved self-titled early-'70s debut LP, and also included what's probably his most well-known country hit in the title track. It's not the most innovative (and certainly not the fieriest) honky tonk of the era. But if you do like that style, it's recommended both for the easygoing warmth of the vocals and the smooth yet decidedly non-glossy production and arrangements. A bit of the swagger of Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash informs "Honky Tonk Heroes," but Edwards usually takes a more laid-back approach on these tracks. This also includes the first song Edwards wrote, "Two Dollar Toy," inspired by the toy his daughter was holding when she asked to go with him when he was on the verge of abandoning his family, though the song's not quite as syrupy as that scenario might lead you to expect. He also wrote (with George Stanley) "The Fishin' Song," which is as close as the LP gets to a zippy hoedown, though most of the record's given over to compositions by other writers.
