Dispensing almost entirely with Folly's ska-punk beginnings -- only "Broken" and "We Believe" even come close to a rude boy vibe -- Resist Convenience reintroduces the New Jersey-based band, straddling that fine line between anthemic street punk and brutal metalcore. Punch-the-air choruses share songs with unison-riff verses delivered in Jon Tummillo's feral growl, and drummer Anthony Wille tends to play about twice as fast as everyone else. As a result, Folly have removed the one aspect of their sound that was particularly unique in the present post-hardcore arena, in favor of making themselves sound pretty much like a fuzzy amalgam of two more generally acceptable musical styles without capturing most of the inherent excitement of either. Overall, Resist Convenience is a disappointment, but this is clearly a transitional album capturing a band at an awkward career point.
