Magali Mosnier
Trained in France and having spent the first part of her career making appearances there, flutist Magali Mosnier is a leading avatar of the French conservatory tradition as it relates to her instrument. Since 2003 she has been principal flutist of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. Mosnier was born in Montluçon in central France in 1976. She studied the oboe beginning at age seven before switching to the flute and enrolling at the Conservatoire National de Région de Lyon and then the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris where her teachers were Pierre-Yves Artaud and Georges Alirol. In 1996 she earned her first orchestral seat with the Orchestre Symphonique des Jeunes d'Île de France, moving on to the Philharmonie de Chambre de Paris. Breakthroughs came in 2001 with prizes at the Leonardo International Competition in Lorenzo, Italy, and at the Jean-Pierre Rampal International Competition in Paris, an important event for those hoping to follow in the footsteps of the great French flutist. Her 2003 appointment with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France carried with it many opportunities for concerto solo appearances, and she has increasingly appeared outside France, with such groups as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonia, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, and Stuttgart Philharmonic, and the Potsdam Kammerakademie. Mosnier has also appeared at top-caliber festivals including Mostly Mozart at New York's Lincoln Center and the Salzburg Festival in Austria. An ECHO Klassik award as Young Artist of the Year in Germany further cemented her international reputation. An enthusiastic chamber musician, Mosnier has collaborated with Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, the Quatuor Ebène and the Quintette Moraguès, and Michel Dalberto, as well as soprano Sandrine Piau. Signed to the Sony Classical label, she released Fantaisie, featuring French flute works including the Flute Concerto of Jacques Ibert, in 2006. In 2018, she joined a variety of other top French chamber players for the Debussy anthology album Les trois sonates: The Late Works, on the Harmonia Mundi label in 2018.
