Jordi Savall, der unermüdlich auf allen Kontinenten Alte Musik und die Welt des Barock erforscht, hatte sich vor der Konzertreihe in Dôle, Besançon, Paris, Barcelona und Versailles im Dezember 2017 noch nie mit Händels Messias beschäftigt. Auf dem vorliegenden neuen Album ist das letzte dieser Konzerte in Versailles zu hören. Wir finden hier natürlich Le Concert des Nations mit Manfredo Kraemer als Konzertmeister sowie das Vokalensemble Capella Reial de Catalunya. Als Solisten hatte Savall die Sopranistin Rachel Redmond engagiert sowie den Countertenor Damien Guillon (der die ursprünglich für Frauenstimme geschriebenen Partien singt), Nicholas Mulroy als Tenor, und Matthias Winckler, Bass. Das Projekt wurde als Koproduktion zwischen Frankreich und Spanien realisiert. Es konnte in der wunderschönen historischen Umgebung der königlichen Saline von Arc-et-Senans heranreifen, bevor es in beiden Ländern auf Tournee ging und den vielen Bewunderern des katalanischen Musikers als Weihnachtsgeschenk dargeboten wurde. © François Hudry/Qobuz
