Tzimon Barto darf man sich auf keinen Fall entgehen lassen. Dieses ungewöhnliche und faszinierende musikalische Phänomen lässt niemanden kalt. Allein sein Lebenslauf ist schon sehr ausgefallen: Dichter, Philosoph, Bodybuilder, Sprachgenie… er spricht sieben Sprachen! – Tzimon Barto ist ein Mann der Extreme. Sein Spiel ist den einen zu sanft, den anderen zu aggressiv, sein Rhythmus zu starr oder zu rubato, sein Konzept des Rezitals zu unübersichtlich oder zu unberechenbar (er hat keine Scheu, vor einer Zugabe eigene Gedichte zu rezitieren). Kurzum, das Enfant terrible des Klaviers verunsichert durch seine große Freiheit. Doch dies wäre alles schnell ermüdend, wenn nicht hinter den musikalischen Blasphemien, die er sich herausnimmt, eine innovative und verblüffende Interpretation der großen Werke des Repertoires stünde. Die ersten Takte des Wohltemperierten Klaviers, das seit langem im kollektiven Gedächtnis verankert ist, versetzen uns einen Schock, von dem wir uns nur erholen, wenn wir das Album aufmerksam bis zum Ende anhören. Barto geht auf eine unendlich persönliche Art und Weise vor, die niemandem anders einfallen könnte. Ganze Generationen von Pianisten und Musikwissenschaftlern haben sich vergeblich bemüht, die ideale Interpretation von Bachs Werken für Tasteninstrumente zu finden, indem sie die Frage auf zwei binäre Parameter reduzierten: Rhythmik (streng vs. rubato) und Spielweise (legato vs. détaché).
