Shaun Johnson Big Band Experience

The Shaun Johnson Big Band Experience is a swinging octet that straddles the line between the traditional pop of Frank Sinatra and the contemporary stylings of Michael Bublé. The group first gained attention in 2012, building upon singer Johnson's acclaim as the leader of the Emmy-award winning a cappella group Tonic Sol-Fa. Following a PBS holiday special Sounds of the Season, Johnson issued both Capitol and The Set List in 2019 Hailing from Saint Joseph, Iowa, Johnson grew up singing from a young age and eventually honed his craft at Minnesota's Saint John’s University. It was while at Saint John's that he co-founded the a cappella group Tonic Sol-Fa. From the late '90s onward, he toured and recorded with the ensemble, along the way being voted into the Midwest Music Hall of Fame and earning a 2010 Emmy Award for their song showcased in a Toys for Tots PSA. Settling in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Johnson came up with the idea of fronting a big band and singing a mix of standards and reworked pop songs influenced by artists like Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, and Michael Bublé. He debuted his eight-member Big Band Experience with a 2012 holiday-themed album Live, followed a year later by What'll I Do. Two more albums arrived in 2019: The Set List and Capitol.
