Maurice Yancey & One Accord

Describing themselves as "a group of young men who love the Lord with all our heart," Maurice Yancey & One Accord are a gospel vocal group who combine emphatic harmonies with inspired lead work to deliver their message of praise and devotion. Performing contemporary gospel with a strong R&B influence, the group was formed in 2008 and has developed a strong following in the gospel music community on the basis of albums like 2014's Not Your Ordinary and 2018's Sentiments of My Heart. Based in Portsmouth, Virginia, the group was founded by Maurice Yancey, a worship leader and musician who had been singing in church since he was five years old. Yancey sang lead with the group, while Reggie Halsey, Ron Barnes, and Charles Branch harmonized with him; they also toured with a band featuring Steven Griffen on keyboards, Joshua Cuffee on guitar, Jermaine Scates on bass, and Steven Parks on drums. Yancey & One Accord began performing in 2008, and the following year, the Gospel Music Workshop of America named them the year's outstanding new quartet. In 2010, the group self-released its debut album, Just the Beginning. The album fared well enough that Maurice Yancey & One Accord struck a deal with the Humility Record Group, who issued their second album, 2014's Not Your Ordinary. The album was acclaimed in the gospel music media, and they received a Stellar Award nomination for Best Quartet of 2015. The group focused on live work for the next several years before striking a new record deal with Band Geek Music Group. BGMG released Sentiments of My Heart in 2018, and it became Maurice Yancey & One Accord's most successful release to date, rising to number 23 on the Top Gospel Albums chart.
