Onze ans après sa mort, Joey Ramone revient malgré lui sur Ya Know? un nouvel album posthume après Don’t Worry About Me qui était sorti moins d’un an après la mort du chanteur, en 2002.
Si Don’t worry About Me, sans être une perle, avait su rester dans la veine du meilleur des Ramones – sans doute parce que les chansons étaient presque toutes achevées avant le décès de Joey Ramone -, la légitimité d’une nouvelle sortie posthume avec Ya Know? est incertaine. Car ici, il ne s’agit plus tant de faire découvrir au public des morceaux jamais édités, mais de rendre hommage au chanteur du groupe fondateur du mouvement punk aux Etats-Unis. La grande majorité des titres qui composent ce second (deuxième ?) album posthume sont en effet issus de démos loin d’être finalisées.
Cependant, Ya Know? a le mérite de n’avoir pas entaché ni la mémoire, ni le souvenir de Joey Ramone, qui savait bien s’entourer, de son vivant. Ainsi, le travail de son frère Mickey Leigh, mais également la présence de Joan Jett, Stevie Van Zandt de E Street Band, ainsi que le travail de Ed Stasium et Jean Beauvoir, les producteurs des Ramones apportent à ce disque une cohérence, une continuité qui montre une fois de plus comme la musique des Ramones se situe hors du temps.
