Dans une scène du Charme discret de la bourgeoisie de Luis Buñuel, un jeune sergent raconte un rêve dans lequel il croise le spectre de sa mère au milieu d’une rue commerçante, créant chez le spectateur un étrange mélange d’effroi et de tristesse. Comme dans une vignette surréaliste buñuelienne, après quarante ans de silence, on retrouve la maison ABBA dans l’état où on l’avait laissée. Une maison fantôme où rien n’a été touché et où seule une fine couche de poussière ternit à peine la couleur orange de ses meubles Space Age. L’auditeur déambule parmi les ombres d’un passé révolu, où un sentiment de nostalgie réconfortante croise une esthétique kitsch pouvant engendrer sourire ou malaise. Une chanson de Noël comme Little Things – avec chœur d’enfants et glockenspiels scintillants – n’est ni plus ni moins qu’un Polaroid jauni d’un 24 décembre où l’on pose près d’un oncle en pantalon pattes d’eph et une cousine au brushing « Fawcett Flip ».
Certes, ce sont les technologies d’aujourd’hui qui ont été utilisées pour confectionner ce neuvième album du groupe suédois, et les voix ont désormais un charme patiné, mais le style positif et fédérateur de la musique d’ABBA est toujours présent. Ainsi que leur sens du tube habilement troussé. Cornemuse synthétique, flûtes graciles et accords de piano richement plaqués forment l’attirail privilégié du quatuor aux 390 millions d’albums vendus dans le monde. Sorte de miroir déformant de leurs hits intemporels (Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, Fernando…), Voyage est constitué de chansons pop (Don’t Shut Me Down, Keep an Eye on Dan) et de ballades (I Can Be That Woman) dont on ne peut que saluer la puissance émotionnelle. © Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz
