On their third release Truth, Soul, & Rock & Roll, the Elms turn on the ignition, rev the engine, and push the accelerator to the floor like rock veterans. On their last disc the Big Surprise the band chose a British, alternative vibe. On the latest opus the gloves are off and the band opts for a stripped down, loud, honest, American rock joyride. Led by vocalist/guitarist Owen Thomas, the band delivers from beginning to end. Opening the disc nicely is the cut "Speaking In Tongues." Here the band utilizes a distorted guitar lick and some vocal harmonies to lay down a tune that spits vinegar. In the same vein, "You Got No Room To Talk" is an anthemic, Stones-type ditty that has a raw intensity. Just like the vibe on their first two discs the Elms impart some of the most passionate slow tempo numbers as any Christian alternative rock band today. Cuts like "You Saved Me," "The First Day," and "Come To Me" are examples of Thomas wearing his heart on his sleeve lyrically as the band utilizes acoustic guitars, shakers, and tasty electric fills to shine like a beacon. Truth, Soul, & Rock & Roll is one of the most aptly named discs to self-describe a bands mission. The Elms come through eliciting lyrical truth while passionately delivering a healthy dose of soulful rock and roll with the amps on 11.
