Durant les années 70 et surtout 80, Manhattan Transfer plafonna au sommet des charts grâce à son alliage de jazz vocal light, de doo-wop et de cabaret. Avec la mort de leur leader, Tim Hauser, en 2014 des suites d’une crise cardiaque, on ne donnait plus cher de leur futur. Mais The Junction prouve que la flamme brille toujours autant, grâce notamment à l’arrivée de Trist Curless (remplaçant assez étonnant de Hauser) et à la virtuosité toujours intacte de Cheryl Bentyne, Janis Siegel et Alan Paul. Neuf ans après l’étonnant The Chick Corea Songbook, Manhattan Transfer offre ici un répertoire assez éclectique, mêlant compositions originales et reprises bien choisies (US3/Herbie Hancock, Rickie Lee Jones, XTC).
