Symphonies de Schubert - Maintenant vraiment complètes. À l'occasion de son vingt-cinquième anniversaire, L'Orfeo Barockorchester publie le présent enregistrement de l'intégrale des symphonies et des fragments symphoniques de Franz Schubert. Il s'agit du plus récent joyau du "répertoire" multiforme de cet orchestre, qui va de la suite du baroque français, allemand et autrichien au classicisme viennois et au premier romantisme, en passant par la sinfonia de l'école de Mannheim.
Bien que Joseph von Spaun ait qualifié Schubert de "compositeur de lieder" peu de temps après sa mort, le catalogue des compositions de Schubert s'ouvre et se ferme, respectivement par un fragment symphonique et par une esquisse de symphonie. Le premier de ces fragments était la partition d'une ouverture (D. 2A) mise sur papier vers 1810-11 et abandonnée au milieu de l'exposition, et le dernier était une ébauche de trois mouvements pour une symphonie en ré majeur (D. 936A) largement élaborée dans son intégralité, dans les dernières semaines, sinon les derniers jours de la vie du compositeur.
Pendant la période de quelque dix-huit ans qui sépare ces deux manuscrits, Schubert s'est distingué de manière créative dans presque toutes les formes, ensembles et genres établis. Les fragments symphoniques entendus ici consistent souvent en des partitions ne contenant que quelques mesures avec l'ajout ultérieur de l'instrumentation d'une pièce, par exemple, les mesures 209 à 223 du premier mouvement du Quatuor à cordes D. 74. Comme le compositeur a attribué la date du "3 septembre 1813" à ce mouvement à la suite de ses dernières notes, il a dû écrire ce fragment immédiatement avant de commencer son travail sur la Symphonie n° 1 en ré majeur, D. 82. © CPO
