Two years after reaching the peak of their career with Mambo Feber, Wilmer X tried to follow up the success with another pop-based album. Not a stupid move, since Nisse Hellberg undeniably has a great talent for melodies and catchy hooks. The album fared well with the critics and sold in decent numbers, even if not as much as their two former albums, but still marked the beginning of a decline for Wilmer X. There were mainly two problems with the approach. One was that the band's most long-lasting fans, who liked the non-compromising rock of the '80s records, were left behind (a development that would be more obvious later on). The other, and the one that matters, was that while being witty and having a raw sense of humor in many songs, and also later getting awarded for his lyrics, Hellberg had a big blind spot when it came to emotional ballads. A song like "Fanny I Fönstret" being played like a soul ballad and sung like a country song is quite embarrassing. Further, the meek pop of "Hoppas På Regn" and "Teddys Rum" suits the band very badly. But the record does hold a number of great tracks. When instead embracing gospel in the anti-religious "Kan Du Gå På Vatten?," "Wilmer X" is at their best, and this shows what a tight and fierce band they can be. Some of the blame for the problems of this album also goes to the production as well, but too-clean production was not a rare thing in 1993.
