Magic wasn't due for another record in 2003, but after he moved from No Limit to his own 5 Plus 4 Ent. (distributed by Koch), he released On My Own just five months after his second LP, White Eyes. Though it's clear he didn't have many hooks in reserve for this one, Magic has plenty of ideas to make it interesting, at least for the first few tracks. "Wilyn'" is another smooth, out-partying track like "Friday" from White Eyes, and "International Gangstas" extends the previously played-out gangsta genre for at least a couple of months. Unfortunately, Magic stretches out On My Own to over 20 tracks, most of them given sparse, brittle productions by Sinista, Soulja a, and DaBear.
