Après avoir survécu aux controverses et aux retards, la nouvelle production tant attendue de l'ancienne Fugee Lauryn Hill voit le jour avec MTV Unplugged No. 2. Lauryn Hill, plus mûre, plus sage, trouvant du réconfort dans l'honnêteté sans se laisser intimider, livre une performance qui tient à la fois du sermon et de la confession. Le solo acoustique "Adam Lives in Theory" parle de la lutte des hommes et des femmes pour concilier leurs imperfections, tandis qu'avec le refrain répétitif de "Freedom Time", on trouve une Lauryn Hill libérée de son aveuglement. Sur un passage déchirant de "I Gotta Find Peace of Mind", elle fond en larmes, exposant à la fois son cœur et sa musique. Quand Lauryn Hill chante "that old me is left behind" (j'ai abandonné celle que j'étais avant) avec tant de passion, on ne peut pas s'empêcher de la croire et d'admirer le sentiment.
