Louisville, Kentucky rapper EST Gee sounds like he's running out of breath from the first verses of "Pray You Die in Surgery," the first song on his relentlessly fiery mixtape Mad. The energy stays urgent and sometimes even frantic for the majority of the 14-track project, with EST Gee mostly blasting through unbroken flows but sometimes introducing melodic, partially sung elements on the pseudo-hooks of tracks like "Drop Top," the eerie trap lurch of "If I Stop Now," and the almost R&B croon of "Lie to Me Some More." Mad is light on features, with only Young Scooter coming through on the flute-loop heavy "Slam Dunk," Boosie Badazz slithering through a rowdy verse on the otherwise mournful "Hotboys," and Kada stealing the show on the emotive-yet-catchy closing track "Kadas song."
