Broken romance seems to be the fuel that lights the fire for many country songwriters, and Leslie Satcher is no different. In fact, it's a common theme on this telling debut album from an accomplished songwriter. Having penned songs for the likes of Vince Gill, Sara Evans, and Martina McBride, Satcher brings to life her own heartbreak (the man she had hoped to marry marries someone else) in ten of the 11 mostly gloomy tracks she wrote or co-wrote. Lyrics like "I've had lovers leave me and my own heart deceive me" in "I Will Survive" or "you hardly say more than how was your day" in "Look Who's Talking Now," or even "she'll wear your old boots to the mailbox and your name on the rest of her life" in "Love Letters From Old Mexico," continue the sentiment. Everybody likes a good cry every now and then, but, unfortunately, Satcher kinda just makes you feel sorry for her. Still, Love Letters is worth at least a listen.
