A product of the fertile Bristol post-rock scene, Crescent is primarily a vehicle for Matt Jones's various musical whims--including explorations into drone-based shoegaze pop and lo-fi folk-rock, among others. LITTLE WAVES, the band's fifth studio outing, contains charmingly rough-hewn, acoustic slowcore featuring Jones's narcotic croon--a low-key, gentle murmur reminiscent of Nick Drake. Adorned with the grainy patina of outmoded analog technology (78s, reel to reels, tube amplifiers), LITTLE WAVES articulates the pastoral spaces just outside the reach of digital technology.
