Produit à New York et paru en 1997, L'Ecole du micro d'argent, troisième album du collectif marseillais baptisé IAM, s'est immédiatement imposé comme un classique de la scène hip-hop française, un statut que les années n'ont aucunement terni. Déjà rendu célèbre grâce au remix du single "Je danse le M.I.A." en 1994, l'équipe d'Akhenaton, Shuriken et DJ Kheops enfonce le clou avec un disque riche et cohérent, gorgé de textes touffus évitant systématiquement la facilité, servis par des productions imparables et appuyés par un ensemble de featurings de premier choix, de Rahzel à Sunz of Man en passant par Fabe ou Nuttea. Si aucun single n'a pu rivaliser avec "Le M.I.A." auprès du grand public, le disque a lui dépassé les frontières hexagonales et offert quelques classiques du genre comme l'épique et poignante "Demain c'est loin".
