Un tsunami rock’n’roll ! Sur scène, les Ramones ne se posaient pas de question et tiraient à vue sur tout ce qui bougeait, histoire de rappeler leur règle du jeu, originale, bien ancrée dans une tradition rock’n’roll allant de la surf music aux girls groups. La crétinerie comme philosophie, l’insouciance ado comme unique credo, les guitares supersoniques comme arme de destruction massive, cette profession de foi, binaire dans sa forme, jouissive dans son fond, donna naissance à des hymnes de pop bubble-gum sous amphétamines comme Blitzkrieg BopNow I Wanna Sniff Some Glue et Judy Is A Punk. Enregistré en 1977 au Rainbow Theatre de Londres le soir du réveillon du nouvel an, It’s Alive enquille à 200 à l’heure ces tubes et plein d’autres piochés sur leurs trois premiers albums, Ramones (1976), Leave Home (1977) et Rocket to Russia (1977). En moins d’une heure, le gang des (faux) frères de Forrest Hills dans le Queens réussit à faire entrer 28 titres ! Sans les fioritures (déjà peu nombreuses) des versions studios, toutes les chansons d’It’s Alive retrouvent leur furie initiale, encore plus basique et encore plus efficace. © Marc Zisman/Qobuz

40 ans de post-punk en 10 albums

Au crépuscule des 70’s, les éclaboussures punk n’ont pas encore séché que la noirceur du mouvement déteint déjà sur de nouveaux groupes. Dans cette new wave, le courant post-punk offre une approche tourmentée voire radicale. Des précurseurs Joy Division et The Fall aux contemporains Shame et Fontaines D.C., coup de zoom sur les albums phares d’un électrochoc qui n’a jamais cessé de fasciner l’underground rock’n’roll.

Ian Curtis, poète industriel et universel

Le suicide du chanteur de Joy Division le 18 mai 1980 continue de hanter le post-punk et la new wave comme l’histoire du rock tout entière. En seulement deux albums, le groupe culte de Manchester a rendu magnifiques la grisaille, la dépression et l’industrialisation urbaine grâce à son leader charismatique, toujours aussi influent aujourd’hui.

La révolution des Talking Heads

Quarante ans après, la folie funky du “Remain in Light” de la bande de David Byrne a conservé toute sa force. Ce post-punk cérébral propulsé sur un dancefloor cosmopolite a même nourri l’ADN de milliers de groupes comme LCD Soundsystem, Vampire Weekend ou Arcade Fire. Avec ce 4e album produit par Brian Eno, les Talking Heads ont fait leur révolution. Et celle du rock.
