Après six ans d’attente, C.W. Stoneking est de retour avec ce Gon’ Boogaloo. Il est loin le temps des tons sépia et des aventures sous les tropiques de Jungle Blues… Cette fois l’album fait la part belle à la dernière invention dans le monde de C.W. Stoneking : l’électricité ! C.W. a troqué son combo guitare National vintage et banjo pour une Fender flamboyante ainsi qu’une portion supplémentaire de rock’n’gospel blues enregistré directement sur bande, avec son groupe, dans son propre studio. Après avoir converti l’Europe à son style unique, le bonhomme s’en est retourné dans sa région de Victoria. C’est là-bas qu’il a confectionné les matériaux de Gon’ Boogaloo : « J’ai mis six ans à préparer cet album, confie Stoneking, mais il a finalement été enregistré de façon live en deux jours, sans overdubs ou retouches, en utilisant seulement deux micros sur un magnétophone Ampex 351 ». Chaque morceau a été mixé en live par la façon de positionner le groupe dans la pièce (batterie, basse électrique ou contrebasse, chœurs et ampli de guitare), en variant distance, volume et degrés autour d’un ancien microphone à ruban RCA-77DX, de manière à obtenir la combinaison optimale...
