Repéré dans le cadre de Star Academy 7, où il est battu en finale par Quentin Mosimann, Mathieu Edward ne tarde pas à faire valoir son talent avec Entre Toi et Moi.
Pourvu d'une voix particulièrement mélodieuse, Mathieu Edward possède des influences R&B et gospel marquées. « Entre toi et moi » et « Comme avant » en duo avec Sheryfa Luna, sont deux tubes qui mettent en évidence une vraie audience populaire et un sens de la mélodie certain.
Mathieu Edward a cependant du mal à choisir entre le R&B et la variété française plus traditionelle. Entre Toi et Moi souffre de ce manque d'orientation claire, l'album est entre deux styles, ce qui lui confère une nette impression d'inachevé.
L'avenir de Mathieu Edward se situe probablement plus dans les thèmes R&B, mieux adaptés à une voix dont les modèles se situent outre-atlantique. Entre Toi et Moi est un essai probant, comme tout essai il demande à être transformé avec un style plus tranché et des thèmes musicaux mieux approfondis.
