On "Echononecho," the A-side of the 12" single of the same name, San Francisco afro-dub-punk trio Mi Ami sounds uncannily like the Rapture kidnapped by a band of Congolese tribesmen in a thick African fog: all yelped vocals, tribal-verging-on-disco-drums, echo and reverb by the truckload. Trendy affect over substance? Yes, absolutely, but so was Elvis. When, at about the third minute, the overdriven guitar lick arrives, try not to get sucked in.
