Le groupe de Des Moines (Iowa) assène enfin un live massif devant une foule mexicaine immense et déchaînée... Hystérique et historique ! Et d'un coup on retrouve la tradition des albums live un peu oubliée dans le hard rock et le metal. Étape majeure naguère pour tous les ténors du genre, l'album enregistré sur scène plus ou moins sans retouches a certes largement perdu de son attrait ces dernières années. Ce "jour des vers" (gusano est la traduction espagnole de maggot, nom affectueux donné aux fans du groupe par Shawn "Clown" Crahan) arrive à point nommé pour raviver un rite qui permet à la fois de résumer un parcours et de le resituer dans son époque.
Galvanisée par sa toute première virée en territoire mexicain, avec son propre festival, le "Knotfest", la machine Slipknot écrase donc tout sur son passage avec des versions magnifiées de ses "classiques" comme des, trop rares, titres récents. The Devil In I, Custer ont en effet peu à envier aux inévitables Psychosocial, Duality, Vermilion ou People=Shit...
Après les épreuves traversées, Slipknot a retrouvé toute sa splendeur, tout en donnant toujours cette impression, fausse s'il en est, de se lancer dans un joyeux bordel sans trop savoir où et comment il va atterrir. On ne pourra que saluer la performance de Corey Taylor dont le chant se bonifie avec le temps. Un double, comme le 9.0: Live de 2005 (qui, pour le coup, était trop long), n'aurait pas été du luxe, même si Day Of The Gusano affiche déjà près d'1h20 au compteur. Cela étant, le son, à la fois rutilant et on ne peux plus percutant, ne manquera pas de combler les plus exigeants. ©JPS/Qobuz
