Sur les quelque quarante-cinq cantates de C. P. E. Bach dont on connaît l’existence, une partie seulement nous est parvenue, les autres étant jusqu’ici perdues, même si l’on peut reconstituer l’une ou l’autre en se servant de sources du côté du « recyclage » dont bien des détails nous sont connus… Bref. La Cantate H. 821b de 1771, elle, existe encore dans le manuscrit autographe. Elle fut écrite pour célébrer l’installation (l’entrée en fonction, donc) du pasteur hambourgeois Johann Klefeker. C. P. E. composa nombre de cantates d’installation, d’ailleurs : la Cantate H. 821o qui conclut l’album mettait à l’honneur le nouveau pasteur en chef de Saint-Pierre de Hambourg en 1787, et ce fut là l’ultime ouvrage dans ce genre du compositeur – qui devait s’éteindre l’année suivante à Hambourg, dont il fut le « director musices » pendant une vingtaine d’années. Ici encore, l’incontestable source est le manuscrit autographe de C. P. E. Bach. L’auditeur reconnaîtra l’évidente griffe du père du compositeur, mais aussi les influences de son temps – même si C. P. E. semble nettement, du moins dans ce répertoire très formel et solennel, regarder vers le passé plutôt que vers le présent. Un étonnant répertoire qu’il faut vraiment découvrir, d’autant plus tel qu’il est ici superbement interprété, par la Capella Thuringia, un ensemble chœur et orchestre baroque basé à Weimar. © SM/Qobuz
