Autotelic

The Filipino rock band Autotelic was formed in 2012 in Manila, Philippines. The co-founding lineup featured guitarist Neil Tin, vocalist/composer Josh Villena, bassist Pabs Villegas, and drummer Gep Macadaeg, with keyboardist Eric Tubon joining the roster soon after. Tubon was later replaced by Kai Honasan. Inspired pop and alternative rock, Autotelic debuted with the self-titled Autotelic EP in 2014, releasing singles like "Misteryoso" and "Dahilan" along the way. "Misteryoso" later appeared on 2015's Fresh Filter: Volume 1, a compilation album spotlighting unsigned Filipino bands. After releasing the single "Close Your Eyes" later that year, Autotelic returned in 2016 with a full-length debut album, Papunta Pabalik. The album also marked the start of the band's relationship with MCA Music, effectively turning Auotelic from an indie act into a major-label group. In 2017, the bandmates performed with Sugarfree vocalist Ebe Dancel during an appearance on the Filipino TV show Coke Studio Philippines, resulting in the release of a collaborative single, "Ebe Dancel," that same year. Meanwhile, Papunta Pabalik continued to earn the band commercial success and critical acclaim, as well as four nominations — including "Best Performance by a New Group Recording Artist" for the song "Laro" and "Best Performance by a Group Recording Artist" for "Gising" — at the 2017 Awit Awards. An EP, Takipsilim, was released the following year, with the record's title track becoming a Top 10 hit on the Philippines' Top 100 Deezer chart in 2023.
