The Hungarian jazz singer Gábor Winand has a small quiet light-toned voice, a little similar to Chet Baker's except he is more in tune. On seven standards and two obscurities, Winand is joined by guitarist Gábor Gadó (a cross between Gabor Szabo and Bill Frisell) and Kristóf Bacsó on alto and soprano. Bassist József Horvath Bárcza is also on three of the nine numbers. Winand often sings the lyrics but on some songs, particularly "My Heart Belongs to Daddy," he sticks to scatting. He does not have a great voice (Gadó often steals solo honors), but is effective at singing in this type of relaxed intimate setting. Winand and Gadó show in their close communication that they have performed countless times together through the years. Bacsó's horns are a major asset, adding some variety to a set that should be of some interest to listeners who are in despair about the small number of active male jazz singers.
