Comme la lente B.O. de funérailles sans fin, grandioses et presqu’irréelles, Pornography qui paraît en mai 1982 conclut avec une certaine majesté une vrai-fausse trilogie new wave commencée avec Seventeen Seconds et Faith. Mais cette fois, le son Cure semble sortir d’une cathédrale immense et vide. Et la torpeur rythmique, martiale, tribale, solennelle et hypnotique s’enroule autour de chacune des huit compositions. Le spleen chanté par Robert Smith se laisse encager par un mur de guitares torturées et des nappes de synthés lugubres et envoûtantes. Difficile de faire la chenille sur ce disque qui renferme une fulgurance anthracite réellement fascinante. Avec Pornography, rarement la new wave n’aura revêtu un aussi beau manteau noir… © MZ
