Auf „Final Straw”, dem Debütalbum von Snow Patrol unter einem Major Label, erweitert die Band ihren gitarrenlastigen Indie-Rock-Sound und legt einen größeren Fokus auf Keyboards, Streicher und eine vollere Produktion (dank Garret Lee). Die vereinnahmende Stimme von Gary Lightbody und seine Texte sind das emotionale Zentrum der Band, wie es der sehnsüchtige Eröffnungstitel „How to Be Dead“ und das langsam aufbauende „Run“ beweisen. Obwohl Sound Patrol oft ziemlich melancholisch klingen, ist die Band aber auch in der Lage, schon einmal so richtig loszurocken („Spitting Games“, „Chocolate“), wodurch eine Ästhetik enthüllt wird, die die Gruppe auf gleiche Ebene mit Coldplay, Travis und anderen Brit-Pop-Highlights setzt.

Albumbeschreibung
Auf „Final Straw”, dem Debütalbum von Snow Patrol unter einem Major Label, erweitert die Band ihren gitarrenlastigen Indie-Rock-Sound und legt einen größeren Fokus auf Keyboards, Streicher und eine vollere Produktion (dank Garret Lee). Die vereinnahmende Stimme von Gary Lightbody und seine Texte sind das emotionale Zentrum der Band, wie es der sehnsüchtige Eröffnungstitel „How to Be Dead“ und das langsam aufbauende „Run“ beweisen. Obwohl Sound Patrol oft ziemlich melancholisch klingen, ist die Band aber auch in der Lage, schon einmal so richtig loszurocken („Spitting Games“, „Chocolate“), wodurch eine Ästhetik enthüllt wird, die die Gruppe auf gleiche Ebene mit Coldplay, Travis und anderen Brit-Pop-Highlights setzt.
