Arriving five years after Home State, the 2018 debut from Jordan Davis, Bluebird Days finds the country-pop singer dimming his inherent sunniness slightly. Make no mistake, Davis still gravitates toward cheerful melodies and unabashed sentiment. There's the obligatory drinking song -- "One Beer in Front of the Other," told to a beat so bright it could serve as a soundtrack for Sunday mimosas -- yet there isn't a hint of grit, not even with the earthy advice to "Buy Dirt." Bluebird Days may have a soft, gentle touch, but it benefits from Davis not sounding nearly as chipper as he did on Home State. Where he seemed hell-bent presiding over a blowout cookout on that debut, he just relaxes into the afternoon sun here, letting the vibes flow as they may. It's a subtle difference but one that makes Bluebird Days an easier record to enjoy.
