The Wedding Present probablemente no sean un grupo tan “indie” como parece. Formados en Leeds en 1985 por David Gedge, comparten un disco increíble con... ¡Elvis Presley! El que más singles ha colocado en el Top 40 británico en un año, tras lanzar un tema por mes en 1992. El conjunto constituirá entonces el álbum llamado acertadamente “Hit Parade”. Alimentados por la música de The Fall, Buzzcocks y Gang of Four, los Wedding Present vivieron una época dorada durante los primeros diez años de su existencia, llegando a fichar por el sello RCA para la publicación de sus míticos álbumes “Bizarro” y “Seamonsters” a principios de los 90. Y aunque hoy en día sólo queda David Gedge al frente del barco, acompañado de una banda que ha ido cambiando a lo largo de sus numerosas giras, los Wedding Present (y su gemelo pop y orquestal Cinerama) han sabido mantener un espíritu DIY y una identidad propia en la escena alternativa británica, la de verdaderos artesanos musicales.
