En 1990, Neil Young protagonizó un sonado regreso. Mientras el tsunami grunge estaba a punto de devastar el planeta rock, el amigo de los búfalos era más celebrado que nunca por toda la escena indie anglosajona. El momento perfecto para que el Loner recuperara a su formación más ruidosa, Crazy Horse, y publicara un magnífico disco de rock’n’roll sin concesiones. Un álbum lleno de guitarras crudas y efectos que destrozan los tímpanos, titulado Ragged Glory. Grabado el 13 de noviembre del mismo año en Catalyst, en Santa Cruz, el directo Way Down In The Rust Bucket (para los neilyoungófilos, es el volumen 11.5 de la Neil Young Archives Performance Series) documenta la preparación de la gira mundial de Ragged Glory. Un impecable concierto en California que les permitió calentar motores con este nuevo repertorio y, obviamente, revisitar algunos de los grandes clásicos de Young (como Cinnamon Girl, Don’t Cry No Tears, Sedan Delivery, Like a Hurricane o Cortez the Killer, en una desbordante versión de más de 11 minutos… Junto con el baterista Ralph Molina, el guitarrista Frank Sampedro y el bajista Billy Talbot, Neil Young –que en ese momento tenía 45 años– se encuentra en la cima de su arte brutal: un rock’n’roll eléctrico transmitido por canciones que nunca pasan desapercibidas.
