Contrariamente a lo aducido por las malas lenguas, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, OMD para los amigos, no fue grupo de un solo hit, el muy exitoso Enola Gay. Tras ese gran clásico del synth pop-new wave que se encaramó en lo más alto de las listas a finales de 1980, la banda de Andy McCluskey y Paul Humphreys grabaría una decena larga de álbums. Sin mayores sorpresas, el que hace el número trrece, The Punishment Of Luxury, navega por aguas tranquilas. Volvemos a encontrar por lo tanto esa sonoridad 100% OMD, heredada de Kraftwerk aunque orientada hacia territorios mucho más pop.
