There's an emphasis on Kool & the Gang's late-'70s/early-'80s partnership with producer Eumir Deodato on Lo Mejor de Kool & the Gang, a 15-track collection from Universal released as a digital download in Spain. That era featured some of the band's most commercial output, highlighted by the likes of "Ladies Night," "Too Hot," "Get Down on It," and "Celebration," all of which are here. There is a little representation of earlier, funkier work, namely "Open Sesame." Given the quantity of significant singles missing -- in favor of less notable selections -- this isn't one of the better introductions to Kool & the Gang.
