Keegan DeWitt
A versatile American artist, Keegan Dewitt has had success in both film and music. As an in-demand composer, he has worked for HBO, Showtime, and Fox, and has collaborated with a host of notable independent filmmakers. A talented singer/songwriter as well, Dewitt's elegant folk-pop is orchestrated with all the sweeping, grand ornamentations of a movie score. He released his debut solo EP in 2003, and issued his first soundtrack in 2005 - he would amass over two dozen more film scores and a handful of pop offerings by the late 2010s.
DeWitt grew up in central Oregon, where he developed an interest in screenwriting and began making a series of short films with his friend Aaron Katz. When the two reached their upper teens, Katz headed to North Carolina to study directing at the North Carolina School of the Arts, while DeWitt enrolled at SUNY Purchase and relocated to New York. The two continued working together despite the miles between them, with DeWitt writing the musical scores to Katz's independent films. One of their collaborations, Dance Party USA, was hailed by The New York Times as one of 2006's best films.
While DeWitt worked as an actor and composer in New York City, he also began writing shorter, folk-influenced songs and released his first batch of material, Songs from the Byrd Chorus, in 2003. Three years later, he issued the sophomore album Keegan DeWitt & the Sparrows on his own label, Dual Coast Company Recording. Although DeWitt also toured with Roman Candle as the band's temporary guitarist, his solo career began to pick up considerable steam, and he soon signed with the British label Izumi Records and issued his first official LP, Islands, in 2009, which resulted in Paste Magazine naming him one of the ten best solo artists of 2010. Keegan's soundtracks are diverse and numerous, with highlights arriving via the Sundance Film Festival Audience Award-winning This Is Martin Bonner (2011), the Locarno Special Jury Prize-winning Listen Up Philip, 2017's Sam Elliott-starring comedy-drama Hero, and the 2018 musical dramedy Hearts Beat Loud.
