The boys in Exodus had a remarkable knack for shooting themselves in the collective foot every time they seemed on the brink of commercial success and critical acclaim. And sure enough, they followed 1989's outstanding Fabulous Disaster with a total stinker in Impact Is Imminent. Actual songwriting flies right out the window as the band pummels through riff upon endless riff, carelessly thrown together with little songwriting substance to hold them together. Steve Souza's lyrics sound like they were written only as an afterthought (most obviously on the senseless "Lunatic Parade" and the painfully silly title track), and the departure of founding drum god Tom Hunting left another huge void. The band does manage a few bright spots in "Only Death Decides" and "Within the Walls of Chaos," but overall, this is undoubtedly the most forgettable album of Exodus' career.
