The second Spanish-language album from Becky G, 2023's Esquinas finds the singer embracing her heritage and balancing pop hooks with an organic, traditional Regional Mexican sound. The album follows her hit 2022 album, Esquemas, which topped the Latin charts and featured a fizzy blend of reggaeton and dance-oriented pop. Working with producers like Edgar Barrera, Casta, and others, G has crafted a vibrant companion album with Esquinas, one inspired by her grandparents (who emigrated from Mexico to the United States) and the banda, mariachi, and norteno styles of music she grew up with. Cuts like "La Nena" with Gabito Ballesteros, "Chanel" with Peso Pluma, and "Querido Abuelo" are lilting, horn- and guitar-driven songs. While this traditional Mexican style is the primary focus of the album, there are more-contemporary pop tracks, including the opening "2ndo Chance" with Ivan Cornejo and "Cries in Spanish" with Danny Lux, both of which evoke the languid romanticism of '70s Latin pop. Those songs, as with all of Esquinas, showcase G's warmly emotive voice, passion for her Mexican musical heritage, and ever-deeping artistry.
