Obsidian
Many are the heavy metal bands across the globe that call themselves Obsidian, but perhaps the best known hails from Amsterdam, in the Netherlands; features vocalist Robbe Kok, guitarists Simon Lawford and Sjaak Kassies, bassist Gerben Van Der Bij, and drummer Melle Kramer; and performs a highly technical style of progressive death metal. Obsidian's two career albums, 2006's Emerging and 2010's Point of Infinity, elicit comparisons to bands like Sweden's Meshuggah, France's Gojira, and their own compatriots, Textures; followed upon years of woodshedding and demo recordings; and -- though critically praised -- have yet to reach a wider audience.
