Megafortress
Brooklyn solo artist Bill Gillam began performing as Megafortress sometime in the early 2010s, sculpting a strange web of avant-garde composition, synthesizer experimentation, and unconventional vocal layering. His songs incorporated electronics, textural vocals, and the free-form, floating jazz instruments in airy, sometimes menacing songs. A self-titled EP surfaced in 2012 on the Software label and was followed by a much more stripped-down, nearly religious-feeling debut LP in the form of 2014's Believer. In live performances, Gillam was occasionally accompanied by three improvisers: keyboardist Kevin Uehlinger, bassist Dan Bates, and drummer Michael Barron.
